The Slow Rollout

I left the world of marketing and communications six years ago to become a clinical mental health counselor. With my first novel, Unwrapping, now available, I’ve been thrust right back into my old world.

Now, I knew going in that with a small, non-profit publisher—much less one that since went dark with the owner’s retirement—the marketing would fall on my shoulders.

What I’ve come to quickly realize is how incremental the process is in making any kind of “noise” about the book. Each step (organizing a single event, understanding how to get broader distribution for a print-on-demand book, contacting books clubs that could be interested) is its own little process.

And so, much like the clients I see every day, I have to preach patience to myself and be content with the “little wins.”

I got one last week when I formalized my first event, a book signing at Barnes & Noble in Winston-Salem on Saturday, June 7 (read more in the News & Events page). I’m breathing easier even as I write this blog because of that event. And I do know I can safely, and accurately, say, more news to come!
